The Little Black Dress (LBD) is an iconic fashion staple. Known for its timelessness, elegance and versatility, the little black dress transcends fads and phases. But beyond the realms of everyday life, the LBD has also carved an incredible mark on film and pop culture. When we were creating our new Odile collection (available now in our shop) we thought about these iconic looks and how they have impacted fashion history. Here are some of our favorite little black dresses from iconic moments in pop culture history: 
- Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Arguably the most iconic LBD of all time, Audrey Hepburn's Givenchy-designed dress became synonymous with her character. Paired with pearls, oversized sunglasses, and an updo, it’s the epitome of 1960s elegance.
- Elle Woods in Legally Blonde (2001)
Taking a page out of Vivian Kensington’s book, Elle swaps out her positivity pink outfits for this fitted black dress. It’s an impactful outfit for the character as it helps to demonstrate her seriousness and dedication to her newfound passion of studying law. Pink is certainly her color, but it’s fun seeing her try out a classic LBD for contrast. 
- Sugar Cane in Some Like It Hot (1959)
While Marilyn Monroe is often remembered for her white halter dress, her black gown from this comedy classic is equally as captivating. Orr-Kelly, an Australian-American costume designer, won an Academy Award for the costuming of the film.
- Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman (1990)
Transitioning from her earlier colorful outfits in the movie, Julia Roberts character Vivian dons an elegant black cocktail dress, signifying her evolution as a refined lady. It’s a transformative moment both for the character and for 90s fashion.
- Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family (1964)
No matter what version of this Halloween classic is your favorite, Wednesday is notorious for her LBD. Complete with a white collar and long black braids, she’s a style icon even as a kid! We have always thought that Wednesday would love our Chelsea Dress in Odile Black. 
- Morticia Addams in The Addams Family (1964)
We couldn’t include Wednesday and not mention magnificent Morticia! Morticia is the queen of the black dresses, her fashion embodying dark, moody, and seductive. With her admiration of long midi to floor length dresses, we think she would like our Madonna Dress in Odile Black! 
- Satine in Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Satine, the sparkling diamond, dazzled in a corseted black satin dress. Paired with a pair of long black gloves, fishnet tights and a top hat, Satine’s LBD commanded the attention of everyone at the Moulin Rouge.
- Princess Diana’s Revenge Dress (1994)
Stunning, shocking, and sultry, Diana’s off the shoulder black dress is a historic fashion moment. Her fit, debuted at a Vanity Fair party on June 29th, 1994, was designed by Christian Stambolian. Although the dress was far from traditional princess attire, Diana still embodies elegance and regalness with this look. 
- Coco Chanel's Original LBD Design (1920s)
No list would be complete without mentioning Coco Chanel, the designer who is often credited with popularizing the LBD. Her 1920s designs, which were revolutionary at the time, epitomized simplicity and elegance.
